the product reflects the process
Chelsea Dubick’s artistic process thrives on exploration and play. Her practice is deeply rooted in material curiosity, allowing each medium—primarily ceramics and painting—to guide her in unexpected directions. No piece is fully planned from the start. Chelsea’s approach is fluid and responsive, letting each decision build on the last through an organic, meandering evolution. Her deep interest in clouds, water, the natural world and fleshy feminine forms find their way subconsciously into her work. The openness to discovery infuses her pieces with energy, movement and life.
Her creative process is deeply linked to her role as a teacher. For years Chelsea has taught painting and ceramics, focusing on adults who carve out space in their busy lives to nurture an art practice. Teaching should be a two-way dialogue: her students’ questions, interests, and creative breakthroughs shape her classes and her own artistic path. By creating demos that reflect her students’ curiosities and leaning into the “why” behind each technique, Chelsea’s own work finds new directions and fresh perspectives.
For Chelsea, art is a conversation with materials, ideas, and the people she teaches. Each work becomes a record of that dialogue—an unpredictable product of the process.
